WINONA, Minn. – The Winona State football team will celebrate the seniors as they host Minnesota Duluth in the final home game of the 2024 season on Saturday, November 2nd at 1:00pm.
The Warriors are 3-2 at home this season and will look to secure their fourth straight home victory. The Bulldogs, who were voted the NSIC preseason favorites, are 2-2 on the road this year. Minnesota Duluth had the upper hand last year, defeating WSU 38-14 in Duluth. The last time the contest was played in Winona, UMD beat the Warriors 29-23 in 2021. Winona State has not defeated Minnesota Duluth since November 15, 2003.
Winona State invites all fans to participate in the Warrior Game Day Experience, beginning at 11:00am at the intersection of Johnson and Mark streets on the campus of WSU.
Winona State Notes:
- Winona State defeated Bemidji State last week, 31-28, bringing them to 4-4 overall and 4-3 in the NSIC.
- Ty Johnson earned NSIC Special Teams Player of the Week after racking up 160 yards on four punt returns, including a house call.
- Cole Stenstrom went 12-23 passing with 150 yards and 1 touchdown while rushing for 32 yards rushing on 9 attempts with 2 touchdowns.
- Nick Bucaro led the team in tackles with a total of nine. David Nies, Bronson Schofield, and Ethan Torgrimson each had one sack with Nies leading the team in tackles for loss with two.
- WSU averages 365.4 yards of offense each game and allows just 311.5 yards to opponents.
- Winona State has the fourth-best pass defense in the NSIC, allowing just 171.5 yards per game through the air to opponents per game.
- WSU holds opponents to a 36.6% 3rd down conversion rate and a 40.0% fourth down conversion rate.
- Winona State special teams have been a key part to success this season. WSU is second in the NSIC in kickoff yardage per game and is second in punting.
- Following this week's game, the Warriors are away against Southwest Minnesota State for a 11:00am kickoff in Marshall, Minn. on Saturday, November 9.
Minnesota Duluth Notes:
- The Bulldogs are 4-4 this season and 3-4 within the NSIC.
- UMD has the league's best scoring offense, averaging 33.8 points/game. Their defense allows an average of 17.6 points per game.
- Minnesota Duluth throws for 233.63 yards per game and average 194.5 yards rushing.
- Kyle Walljasper is the team's leading passer and rusher. Walljasper has thrown for 1429 yards this season on 102-153 passing with 15 TDs and just two interceptions. He also is averaging 56.29 yards/game on the ground.
- Alex Riley adds another 37.38 yards rushing per game while DaShaun Ames averages 72.88 yards receiving.
- Andrew Klopp is UMD's leading tackler, grabbing 36.0 stops on the season with 7.5 TFLs and 2.5 sacks.
- Jonathan Shrum has two interceptions and three pass breakups to lead the Bulldogs.
- Minnesota Duluth is set to travel to Concordia-St. Paul for their next contest on November 9.
