WINONA, Minn. - The Winona State University women's volleyball team faced off against #6 Wayne State College for a mid-week Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) match, falling 1-3 in a closely contested match.
As a team, the Warriors registered a .172 hitting percentage in the match, compared to .222 for the Wildcats. Winona State University showed a positive defensive effort with Kylie Welch earning 29 digs to lead the Warriors, while Brooke Peltz led WSC with 33 digs.

Set one:
The Warriors got on the board first with a
Kenna Kornely kill, but Wayne would respond right away battling with WSU point for point. Kornely would chip in another kill to make the score 14-16 before Wayne State would go on a 5-0 run to open the door. WSU would bounce back with a 4-0 run of their own highlighted by two kills from graduate student
Sidney Paulson. WSC would end up being too much to handle in set one, winning 25-21.
Set two:
Lydia Lange would get the first Winona State point of set number two and the Warriors would take their first lead of the set at 6-5 with a service ace from Anna Hennessy. The Warriors and Wildcats would see a back-and-forth effort the whole set with the final Warrior point coming from Lydia Lange making it 24-24, but that wasn't enough, with the Wildcats taking set two 26-24.
Set three:
Set number three would see the Warriors rally together early, making a 5-0 run highlighted by two Anna Hennessy service aces. Wayne would respond with a pair of points before WSU would go on another 5-0 to make the set 16-8. The Wildcats would battle back within three points of the Warriors before an Abigail Savatski block would end set three 25-18.
Set four:
The final set of this match saw both teams giving all they had with no team seeing a lead of more than two points until 10-8 where WSC would go on a 10-0 run ending with a Jordie Nekl service ace. The Warriors would not give up, inching away at the lead until a Warrior 6-0 run with Sidney Paulson chipping in three kills during that stretch. After a pair of reviews and timeouts, the Warriors would eventually fall after a kill by Channatee Robles ending the set and match 29-27.
Winona State (10-8, 3-4 NSIC) is next in action on Friday, October 11 at 6pm where they will face off against Minnesota State University Moorhead (6-6, 1-3 NSIC) starting the homecoming weekend at Winona State.
