WINONA STATE SOCCER HAS 6 HONORED FOR ACADEMICS

WINONA, Minn. - Six members of the Winona State University soccer team earned a spot on the 2024 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District team announced on November 19. 

Winona State University women's soccer team had six players earn a spot on the 2024 CSC Academic All-District list: Alyson Jumper, Julia Kunz, Callie Menzel, Sarah Strating, Madisson Watts, and Abigail Williams

The 2024 Academic All-District soccer teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-American program separately recognizes soccer honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. 

Alyson Jumper, a goalkeeper from Ankeny, Iowa, rounded out her WSU career with 184 total saves with 10 shutouts and a save percentage of .783 in the Warrior uniform. Jumper collected a season high 11 saves during her senior campaign against Bemidji State. 

Julia Kunz, a defender from Cedarburg, Wis., was one of the key defensive walls for the Warriors, helping keep opponents to only 9.5 shots per game in their 2024 season. A part of being on the defensive side of the ball, Kunz also helped keep other teams to 152 total shots to Winona State's 168 shots during her junior season. 

Callie Menzel, a defender from Iowa City, Iowa, was another key defensive wall for the Warriors. Menzel earned NSIC Second Team All-Conference honors rounding out her senior campaign. Callie was also a part of keeping opponents to 9.5 shots per game as well holding them to only 152 shots total in the 2024 season. 

Sarah Strating, a forward from Lino Lakes, Minn., was a threat on the offensive side of the ball, pressuring opponents earning 24 shots and 14 shots on goal in the 2024 season as a junior. Strating collected an assist against Minnesota Duluth as well has having four games where she had season highs of three shots. 

Madisson Watts, a forward from Des Moines, Iowa, another offensive threat for the Warriors, pressured opponents. Watts collected a season high of five shots against Minnesota Crookston and collected 17 shots with 10 of those being on goal. Watts also scored a goal against Minnesota Duluth for the win. 

Abigail Williams, a Midfielder from Savage, Minn., played a key roll on the offensive side of the ball for the Warriors. Williams collected two goals during her senior season as well as collecting 11 shots with five of those being on goal. Williams rounded out her senior campaign with a total of 10 goals and three assists with 23 points and 51 shots with 27 of those being on goal. 

Academic All-District honorees were considered for advancement to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. Student-athletes selected as CSC Academic All-America finalists are denoted with an asterisk and will advance to the national ballot to be voted on by CSC members. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-American honorees will be announced Dec. 11, 2024.
