WINONA, Minn. – The Winona State University soccer team will start the 2025 regular season at UW-Parkside on Friday, September 5th at 1:00pm.
The nonconference matchup will kickoff the 2025 season for the Warriors, who went 6-8-2 last year during Coach Delaney Marier's inaugural season.
Winona State Notes:
- Winona State kicks off the 2025 season by hosting the Michigan Tech Huskies at Altra Federal Credit Union Stadium.
- The Warriors are looking to build off of a 6-8-2 record last year, while being 5-8-1 in the NSIC. The Warriors are looking to build off previous seasons and begin to establish themselves within the NSIC
- Coach Marier is entering her second year as head coach of the Warriors, and noted, "This fall is going to be exciting. We have a strong group of returners who've laid the foundation over the past year, and we've added some new players who bring fresh energy and quality to the squad. What excites me most is how this group is coming together — there's a shared drive to compete, grow, and represent Winona State with pride. We've built a culture centered on accountability and connection, and now we're ready to take the next step. The energy around this team is real, and I can't wait to see it translate on the field."
- Faith Quinn, a sophomore and Winona native, was picked as WSU's offensive player to watch. Quinn brings an impressive stat-line with her, a dynamic presence in the final third, and a relentless work rate to drive the Warriors this fall.
- Annika Groendal, a junior hailing from New Berlin, Wisconsin, was listed as WSU's defensive player to watch. Groendal brings a steady and composed presence to the backline that naturally organizes and calms those around her.
UW-Parkside Notes:
- UW-Parkside finished the 2024 season with a 5-9-5 record and went 3-6-5 in the GLIAC.
- The Rangers are tabbed to finish eighth in the GLIAC.
- UW-Parkside head coach Brittany Nikolic returns for her eleventh year at the helm of the Rangers.
- Senior forward Emily Mikkelson headlines the list of returners after earning Second-Team All-GLIAC honors in 2024. She led the team in points (8), tied for the lead in goals (2), and ranked in the GLIAC's top 10 in both total shots and game-winning goals.
- Sophmore Ava Rizzitano mpressed in her first season as a Ranger, matching Mikkelson for the team lead in goals and showing a knack for creating scoring opportunities. Both will play pivotal roles in sparking the Rangers' attack in 2025.
- "I'm really excited about our group this year." said Head Coach Brittnay Nikolic. "We were able to bring in a lot of depth in a lot of areas. We've got 14 newcomers, which is almost half of the team. But, half of that group is transfers that have some kind of collegiate experience, so we have a good mix. I can't wait to see how this group comes together."
