WINONA, Minn. – The Winona State men's cross country team will look to make a statement at the 2024 NCAA Division II Regional Championships on Saturday, Nov. 9th, in Joplin, Missouri. The Regional Championships will kick off with the men's 10,000-meter race beginning at 10:00am.
Last year, the Warriors took home 25th place as a team led by
Mitchell Johnstone, who ran a time of 31:50.70,
Andrew Metcalf, who ran a time of 33:13.28, and
Tyler Merrell, who ran a time of 34:26.16. With much of the team returning along with some newcomers, the Warriors are looking to improve on their 25th-place finish in last year's NCAA Division II Regional Championships.
The Winona State Warriors have had plenty of success this season finishing in the top fifteen as a team in all five of their meets. This year's top runners who have helped lead the charge for the Warriors in all their meets are Johnstone, Metcalf,
Connor Norby, and
Robert Spain. In all five of their meets this season, these four runners have all finished within a handful of seconds from one another.
Standing in the way of Winona State in this year's NCAA Division II Regional Championships are Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Schools Northern State and Wayne State. The Wolves and the Wildcats last year took 24th and 23rd in front of the Warriors, looking to change the outcome of this year's NCAA Division II Regional Championships, Winona State will have to compete hard through the finish line.
