WINONA, Minn. – The Winona State women's basketball team loses against Southwest Minnesota State University 93-64.
The first half of today's contest started neck and neck with the teams trading baskets the entire half. Pulling away in the second half, SMSU went 20-33 (60.6%) from the field and 11-21 (52.4%) from beyond the three-point line.
How it Happened:
Southwest Minnesota State recorded the first points of the contest on a three-point attempt from Peyton Blandin. In the final seconds of the quarter,
Sadie Jarmolowicz followed
Olivia Gamoke's jump shot for a tip-in layup to close out the first.
Trading baskets back and forth during the second quarter, the Mustangs recorded 22 points on 7-13 (53.9%) shooting from the field, and the Warriors recorded 15 points on 7-15 (46.7%) shooting from the field.
Coming out of the half, Winona State recorded the first points with a jump shot from Gamoke. A pair of free throws from WSU's Gamoke and a made free throw from SMSU's Natalie Nielson closed out the scoring in the third quarter.
Winona State got the scoring started in the final quarter of the game with a steal and fast-break layup from Gamoke. Late in the game, Nicole Maenke made five three-pointers to increase the Mustang lead. The score at the end of the fourth was SMSU 93, WSU 64.
Individual Leaders:
- Leading the Warriors in scoring was Gamoke with 16 points on 6-13 (46.2%) shooting from the field, and for the Mustangs, Bri Stoltzman led the team in scoring with 27 points on 11-15 (73.3%) shooting from the field.
- Nielsen led Southwest Minnesota State in rebounds with 11, and for Winona State, Sadie Jarmolowicz led the team with seven.
- Leading the Warriors in assists was Gamoke with three, and for the Mustangs, Stoltzman led with six.
- Stoltzman also led Southwest Minnesota State in steals with two, and for Winona State, Mattie Schimenz and Gamoke each led the team with one.
- Holding down the middle for the Warriors was Paige Peaslee with one block, and for the Mustangs, Nielsen led the team with three.

- Winona State went 24-63 (38.1%) from the field while Southwest Minnesota State went 34-61 (55.7%)
- The Mustangs went 16-36 (44.4%) from beyond the three-point line while the Warriors went 5-20 (25%).
