WINONA STATE FALLS TO #13 MINNESOTA STATE

WINONA, Minn – The Winona State women's basketball team fell short against NSIC conference opponent Minnesota State 83-69.
 
Keeping the scoring close in the first half, WSU went 11-27 (40.7%) from the field, while MSU went 16-34 (47.1%). Minnesota State pulled away in the second half, shooting 13-34 (38.2%) from the field, while Winona State shot 14-29 (48.3%).
 
How it Happened:
Minnesota State recorded the first two points of the contest with a layup from Destinee Bursch. In the final seconds of the first quarter, Emma Kilpatrick closed out the scoring with a free throw. The score at the end of the quarter was MSU 21, WSU 16.
 
Trading baskets early in the second quarter, Minnesota State's Mackenzie Schweim recorded the first points of the quarter with a shot beyond the arch on an assist from Adeline Kent, followed by a layup from Winona State's Sadie Jarmolowicz. Going into the half the score was MSU 42, WSU 28.
 
Coming out of the half, Destinee Bursch recorded the first points of the second half with a layup. A made free throw from Vivica Bretton closed out the scoring in the third quarter bringing the score to MSU 68, WSU 45.
 
The Mavericks recorded the first points of the final quarter with a rebound and tip-in layup from Ava Stier. The Warriors made a final push to cut into Minnesota State's lead with a layup from Stephanie Dasbach and a made free throw from Avery Moeller. The score at the end of the contest was MSU 83, WSU 69.

  • Hailey Markworth led WSU in scoring with 14 points on 6-11 (54.5%) shooting.
  • Mattie Schimenz led Winona State with three assists.

  • Natalie Bremer and Stier led MSU in scoring with 15 points on 5-14 (35.7%) and 6-10 (60%) shooting. Bremer also led the team in rebounds with ten.
