Box Score WINONA, Minn. - The Winona State University women's tennis team was dealt a 6-1 setback by Minnesota State on Saturday, February 24, in a match played at the Winona Tennis Center.
The visiting Mavericks took the opening point of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) match with a sweep in the doubles competition. Minnesota State would go on to take five of the six singles points en route to the 6-1 NSIC victory.
MSU's No 1. doubles team of Chiara Carnelutti and Avery Stilwell defeated WSU's
Sara Anderson and
Ally Burger 6-2. The Maverick's Freia Lawrence and Hana Minisy beat the Warrior's
Halle Rosentreter and
Lainy Ristau in No. 2 doubles action by a 6-3 scoreline and Minnesota State completed the sweep with Elizabeth Felderman and McKenna DeMarce dispatching Winona State's
Clara Thoemke and
Maddie Moe 6-2 at No. 3 doubles play.
In singles play, Winona State picked up a win at No. 3 singles when
Lainy Ristau defeated MSU's Avery Stilwell 4-6, 7-6 (4), 10-8 in a hard-fought match. No. 1 singles saw MSU's Chiara Carnelutti dispatch WSU's
Sara Anderson 6-3, 6-3, and the Maverick's claimed a win at No. 2 singles with Freia Lawrence defeating
Halle Rosentreter 6-2, 6-3.
Winona State's Clara Thoeke fall to MSU's Daria Podmogilnaia 6-4, 6-2 at No. 4 singles and the No. 5 singles slot went the way of the Mavericks when Elizabeth Felderman beat
Elysia Beynon 6-3, 6-1. MSU wrapped up the match at No. 6 singles with McKenna Demarce defeating
Ally Burger 6-1, 6-1.
Winona State (2-3, 0-3 NSIC) is in action next beginning on Sunday, March 3 when the Warriors compete on the annual spring break trip. WSU will open against California (Pa.) University to begin their five-match Florida road trip.
