Box Score 4 ORLANDO, Fla. - The Winona State University women's tennis team recently wrapped up play on the 2024 Warrior spring break trip, with WSU competing in five matches between Monday, March 4 and Friday, March 8.
Winona State (4-6, 0-3 NSIC) WSU opened their time in Florida with a 5-2 victory over Seton Hill and picked up a victory against California (Pa.) University in the final day of competition, with the Warriors resuming play against the Vulcans in a match delayed by weather. The bookend wins provided highlights for Winona State as they head home to resume the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) slate later this month.
March 4: Winona State 5, Seton Hill (Pa.) University 2 | The Warriors took the No. 1, No. 2, and No. 3 doubles to claim the opening point. In singles play, Ristau, Thoemke, Rosentreter, and Beynon earned wins at No. 2, No. 3, No. 5, and No. 4 singles. The 5-2 win over SHU allowed WSU to snap a three-match losing skid heading into the Florida trip.
March 5: Spring Arbor (Mich.) University 5, Winona State 1 | Clara Thoemke was victorious in the No. 3 singles going 6-2 and 6-2. Unfortunately, Thoemke's victory wasn't enough for the Warriors on the day, as Spring Arbor captured wins at all other level of play. The No. 5 singles match did not complete, dur to weather as WSU fell to NAIA-program Spring Arbor 5-1.
March 7: Rensseleaer Polytechnic 6, Winona State 3 | Using the NCAA Division III 9-point scoring system,
Rensseleaser Polytechnic defeated WSU 6-3. Ristau and
Miranda Daulong were victorious in singles, claiming wins in the No. 2 and No. 6 spots in the Warrior lineup. However, the combined efforts of Ristau and Daulong's were not enough against the RPI Engineers.
March 8: Cornerstone (Mich.) University 4, Winona State 3 | Clara
Thoemke, Ristau, and
Skylar Gary each won in singles, competing in the No. 4, No. 2, No.6 sinlges spots. CU had earned the doubles point to open play in the match, and the 3-0 sweep in doubles play resulted in a Warrior defeat at the hands of the Golden Eagles 4-3.
March 8: Winona State 4, California (Pa.) University 3 | Lainy Ristau turned in a clutch No. 3 singles performance with a 6-3, 5-7, (10-6) win, allowing WSU to wrap up the 2024 spring trip with a 4-3 Warrior win. Winona State and Cal (Pa.) squared off in a resumed match that had been suspended due to weather on Monday, March 4. The 4-3 narrow victory was the second one-level victory for WSU on the season, with the Warriors having defeated St. Cloud State University on Friday, February 9 in a 4-3 win, with
Skylar Gary's 3-6, 6-2 (10-6) effort providing the margin.
Winona State (4-6, 0-3 NSIC) will host an NSIC weekend on Friday, March 15 and Saturday, March 16. WSU and UMD will face off at 6 p.m. on Friday and take on SCSU on Saturday at 5 p.m., with both matches held at the Winona Tennis Center.
