NSIC Weekend: Baseball

WINONA, Minn. - The Winona State University baseball team will face off against Augustana University in an NSIC three-game series this weekend with a chance to move up the league ladder as the postseason picture comes into focus.  The Warriors and Vikings will start with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 13 beginning at 1:30 p.m., and conclude with a single game Sunday, April 14 at noon, in the cozy confines of Loughrey Field.  

Winona State (13-19, 10-12 NSIC) will compete against Augustana in a 7-inning/9-inning doubleheader format on Saturday. Augie enters the weekend 24-6 overall and 16-4 in league play.

All contests are in the cozy confines of Loughrey Field.  
   
WINONA STATE STORYLINES, heading into the series   
The Warriors are 13-19 overall and 10-12 within the NSIC.
 
Alex Berreth is batting .344 on the year and has 33 hits through 27 games played this season.    

Cole Fuecker is batting .364, which leads the Warriors and leads the Warriors in home runs (4), doubles (11), and stolen bases (8-for-11).   

On the mound, Peter Tveite leads WSU in innings pitched (33.0) and threw just the second perfect game ever in Winona State history earlier this season against Bemidji State.  
  
In addition to Tveite, Pierce Gritzmaker (31.1), Cameron Kramer (29.1) and Kole Hinrichsen (28.0) have surpassed 20 innings pitched in 2024. 
 
Peter Tveite leads WSU with 39 Ks on the year, with Gritzmaker (30) and Hinrichsen (32) second and third in the squad, respectively. 

AUGIE STORYLINES heading into the series   

The Vikings (22-6,14-4 NSIC) are on a five-game win streak earning a series sweep against UMary and earning a single game win against Southwest Minnesota State. 

Jack Hines is batting .433, with 14 home runs on the season and 51 RBI.    
   
Drey Dirksen has hit 10 home runs on the year to come in second on the team. 

The Vikings are 62-of-69 in stolen base attempts on the year. 

Two Augie pitchers have reached the four-win mark; Ashton Michek  (5-1, 1 CG, 40.2 IP) and Caleb Saari (4-1, 7 starts, 45.0 IP). 
 
Tim Huber has been the head coach at Augie for 16 seasons.   

WARRIOR NOTABLES   
   
Head coach Seth Wing is in his second season at Winona State, having previously served as athletic director and baseball coach at Cornell College.    
   
Wing was an associate head coach during WSU's last World Series appearance in 2011.    
   
Winona State first fielded an intercollegiate baseball team in 1919.
