NSIC Gameday: Baseball

WINONA, Minn. - The Winona State University baseball team will face off against Concordia St. Paul in a mid-week NSIC doubleheader with hopes to move up the league standings as the postseason picture comes into focus. The Warriors and Golden Bears will start the doubleheader on Thursday, April 18 beginning at 1:30 p.m., with game two set to follow the finish of game one in the cozy confines of Loughrey Field.   

Winona State (13-22, 10-15 NSIC) will compete against Concordia St. Paul in a 7-inning/9-inning doubleheader format on Thursday. The Golden Bears enter the weekend 20-14 overall and 12-13 in NSIC play.

WINONA STATE STORYLINES, heading into the series
The Warriors are 13-22 overall and 10-15 within the NSIC. 

 Jess Ondell is batting .329 on the year and has 24 hits through 24 games played this season.     

Cole Fuecker is batting .348, which leads the Warriors and leads the Warriors in home runs (4), doubles (12), and stolen bases (8-for-11).    

On the mound, Peter Tveite is second on the Warrior team in innings pitched (36.1) and threw just the second perfect game ever in Winona State history earlier this season against Bemidji State.   
   
In addition to Tveite, Pierce Gritzmaker (37.1), Cameron Kramer (29.1) and Kole Hinrichsen (34.0) have surpassed 20 innings pitched in 2024.  
  
Peter Tveite leads WSU with 43 Ks on the year, with Gritzmaker (34) and Hinrichsen (42) second and third in the squad, respectively.  

Concordia St. Paul STORYLINES heading into the series 

The Golden Bears (20-14,12-13 NSIC) are on a three-game win streak earning a series sweep against Wayne State College.  

Nick Thimsen is batting .426, with 10 home runs on the season and 47 RBI.     
    
Mason Nadolney has hit 14 home runs on the year to lead the team.  

The Golden Bears are 21-of-24 in stolen base attempts on the year.  

Three CSP pitchers have reached the four-win mark; Korey Dahlberg (4-2, 3 CG, 45.1 IP), Eric Lundell (4-2, 0 CG, 27.1 IP), and Ian Segna (4-0, 7 starts, 40.2 IP).  
  
Neil Lerner is in his fifth season as the Golden Bears head coach.

Head coach Seth Wing is in his second season at Winona State, having previously served as athletic director and baseball coach at Cornell College.     
    
Wing was an associate head coach during WSU's last World Series appearance in 2011.
