SIOUX FALLS, S. D. - The Winona State University women's tennis team earned an opportunity to compete in the 2024 NSIC Women's Tennis Tournament to be held April 26 - 28 at Huether Family Match Pointe in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Winona State enters the tournament as the No. 7 seed after a hard-fought match against University of Minnesota Crookston with a 4-3 loss on April 6.
The Warriors will square off against the No. 2 seed, University of Mary, in the opening round of the NSIC Tournament with first serve scheduled for 9 a.m. WSU and UMary will meet for the second time in the 2023-24 season, as the Marauders edged out the Warriors, 6-1 back on February 17.
In the match on April, 6, Winona State kept the match close with
Skylar Gary earning a singles win (6-2, 6-2). In doubles,
Sara Anderson and Gary took the win in the #1 doubles spot winning 6-3 and the #2 doubles winning 6-1 by
Halle Rosentreter and
Lainy Ristau.
Heading into the postseason tournament, The Warriors will have Anderson and Gary in the #1 doubles followed by Rosentreter and Ristau in the #2 spot, Ally Berger and
Miranda Daulong in the #3. Singles will have Anderson in the #1, Rosentreter in the #2, Ristau in the #3, Gary in the #4,
Clara Thoemke in the #5, and
Elysia Beynon in the #5 spot.
Winona State will look to avenge the loss against UMary in the quarterfinals to kick-start a tournament run with hopes of reaching the championship match on April 28.
