NSIC Game Day: Baseball

WINONA, Minn. - The Winona State University baseball team hosts St. Cloud State University in an mid-week in a key NSIC doubleheader as the postseason picture comes into focus across the conference.  First pitch in the cozy confines of Loughrey Field is scheduled for Tuesday, April 30 at 1:30 p.m.  

Winona State (19-25, 18-18 NSIC) currently sits in eighth place on the NSIC baseball standings ladder, while St. Cloud State University (27-17, 23-11 NSIC) holds fourth in the conference.

WINONA STATE STORYLINES, heading into the series...
The Warriors are 19-25 overall and 16-18 within the NSIC.  
 
Cole Fuecker is batting .376 on the year and has 64 hits this season with 34 RBI, 15 doubles, and 42 runs.     

Alex Berreth is batting .324 this season collecting 30 RBI, 47 hits, and going 7-for-9 on stolen bases.  

On the mound, Peter Tveite is first on the Warrior team in innings pitched (50.0) and threw the second perfect game ever in Winona State history earlier this season against Bemidji State.    
    
In addition to Tveite, Pierce Gritzmaker (43.1), Kole Hinrichsen (43.2), and Cameron Kramer (41.0), have surpassed 40 innings pitched in 2024.   
   
Peter Tveite leads WSU with 56 Ks on the year, with Gritzmaker (36) and Hinrichsen (51) second and third in the squad, respectively.   

St. Cloud State STORYLINES heading into the series 
The Huskies (27-17, 23-11 NSIC) are coming off of a 2-1 weekend against Minot State University

Sawyer Smith is batting .377 with 66 hits on the season and 52 RBI.      
     
Cal James has hit 12 home runs on the year to lead the team.

The Huskies are 32-of-43 in stolen base attempts on the year.   

Three SCSU pitchers have reached 50-plus innings pitched; Luke Tupy (62.1), Payton VanBeck (61.2), and Jack Habeck (58.1).   
   
Pat Dolan is in his 16th season as the Huskies head coach.     

WARRIOR NOTABLES 
Head coach Seth Wing is in his second season at Winona State, having previously served as athletic director and baseball coach at Cornell College.      
     
Wing was an associate head coach during WSU's last World Series appearance in 2011.
