WINONA, Minn. – The Winona State University football team will look to bounce back after a season-opening loss during week one as the Warriors travel to Concordia-St. Paul for the first NSIC contest of the season.
The Warriors and Golden Bears will hit the gridiron at Sea Foam Stadium in St. Paul, Minn. on Saturday, Sept. 14th with a 6:30pm kickoff. Warrior fans are invited to join the Warrior Game Day Experience at CSP prior to kickoff. Winona State will be hosting a tailgate in Lot E (northeast side of Sea Foam Stadium) from 4:30pm-6:30pm. All Warrior fans are encouraged to join the WSU Game Day Experience for a grill out before cheering on the Warriors.
Winona State and Concordia-St. Paul squared off last on September 9th, 2023, as WSU dominated CSP in front of a home Warrior crowd. Outscoring the Golden Bears 33-8, Winona State capitalized on four
Jacob Scott field goals and held CSP to just 233 yards.
Winona State Notes:
- WSU has won three straight games at CSP, with their last loss against the Golden Bears in the Twin Cities being in 2013.
- During the season opener last week, Winona State failed to comeback after several offensive miscues and lost to Saginaw Valley State, 38-14.
- Winona State put up 410 yards of offense in week one, which is good for the third best average in the NSIC.
- Cole Stenstrom threw for 295 yards on 20-38 passing during week one. The 295-yard performance was the third-best of his career.
- WSU special teams averaged 32.6 yards per kick return last week, which sits them second in the NSIC rankings.
- Tristan Root tallied four punts for a total of 197 yards, including three inside the 20-yard line and had a long punt of 65 yards to lead the NSIC in yards/punt.
- The Warriors are 7-1 following a loss under Coach Bergstrom in the regular season.
- Following this week's game, the Warriors host Wayne State for a 1pm kickoff at Altra Federal Credit Union Stadium.
Concordia-St. Paul Notes:
- Concordia-St. Paul lost their season-opener to former NSIC opponent, Upper Iowa, 33-7.
- The Golden Bears threw the ball for 141 yards and ran for 113 yards while tallying 15 first downs vs. Upper Iowa.
- Conner Cordts led the CSP passing attack, making 11 completions on 20 attempts but threw three interceptions and had just 91 yards. Reed Styer went 4-8 passing with 50 yards.
- Jaylin Richardson was the top Golden Bear rusher, carrying the ball 14 times for 67 yards and scoring the lone CSP touchdown. Cordts added 23 yards rushing on seven attempts and Jaylon Washington carried the ball six times for 20 yards.
- Peter Udoibok led the receiving corps in week one, catching four passes for 38 yards.
- McKinely Neville tallied the lone CSP sack, and Richard Wauer led the Golden Bears with 1.5 TFLs.
- Concordia-St. Paul will travel to Southwest Minnesota State University next week.
