WINONA, Minn. - The Winona State University volleyball team was defeated by the University of Sioux Falls 3-2 to go 1-1 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play. The Warriors battled in five sets taking the first two sets 25-23 and 25-21 before dropping the last three 25-19, 25-20, and 15-13.

Set one:Â
The Warriors began the set on a 10-2 run before a Dan Mathews timeout from USF. The Cougars would rally to tie the game up at 13-13 after the timeout. WSU would battle neck and neck with USF until a kill by Gianna Vollrath would end set one.
Set two:Â
At the beginning of set two the Warriors would take an early 9-5 lead, another Sioux Falls timeout would be taken with the Winona State up 15-10 with a kill by Kenna Kornely. Head coach Joe Getzin would take a timeout himself and the Warriors would come out of that timeout and score three straight points by Sidney Paulson and Jayda Berg. A Kenna Kornely block would end set two 25-21.
Set three:Â
A 1-6 start would lead to a Warriors timeout to start the match before Sioux Falls would see their lead extend to eight at 11-3. WSU would not go down with a slew of kills coming from Sidney Paulson and Kenna Kornely to make it 7-11. Although the Warriors battled, they would eventually drop set three 25-19.
Set four:
Winona State and Sioux Falls would battle back and forth with the Cougars taking an early 10-7 lead with a service ace by Jordan Kuper and not let off the gas extending the lead 18-10 before the Warriors would gather together with a kill by Kenna Kornely earn three straight points. Unfortunately, WSU would battle back and forth with USF until the Cougars took the set 25-20.
Set five:
WSU would start the final set down 1-4 and fight uphill until tying the match 8-8 with a kill by Sidney Paulson. The Warriors would see an 11-9 lead with an Abigail Savatski block, but that wasn't enough as the Cougars would take set five and the match 13-15.
