WINONA, Minn. - The Winona State University Warriors top the Northern State Wolves in a 2-1 victory to round out another NSIC weekend at home.
The Warriors started the game strong against NSU dominating on the offensive side of the ball collecting eight shots in the first half alone. In the 13th minute of the game WSU found the back of the next off of a corner kick and assist from
Faith Quinn, which found the foot of
Kyleigh Jannisch to put the Warriors up 1-0. The Wolves found a way to answer back in the 19th minute with a goal from Megan Fastenau. Winona State did not back down and off of another corner kick, this time taken by
Jacey Sturek, who also got the assist, found the foot of Cathryn Hudak to put WSU in the lead, 2-1 in the 27th minute of the first half.
Going into the second half, Winona State came out strong defensively not allowing NSU to get many good shots off to keep the lead and win their first NSIC game of the season. The Warriors collected shots from Jannisch,
Annika Groendal,
Sarah Strating,
Adrianna Bixby, and Hudak. In goal,
Alyson Jumper collected three saves to help the Warriors in their victory over the Wolves.
The Warriors will be on the road next weekend play at Bemidji State on Friday, October 4 at 4 p.m. and rounding out the weekend at Minnesota Crookston on Sunday, October 6 at 1 p.m.
