WINONA, Minn. – The Winona State University women's basketball team ends their Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) weekend facing off against Bemidji State University, winning 75-57.
Olivia Gamoke led the Warriors in scoring with 21 points, going 7-20 (35%) from the field. In today's matchup, the Warriors from the field were 27-63 (42.9%).
How it Happened:
Bemidji State scored the contest's first points with a mid-range jump shot from Janette Hanni. The first quarter remained close, with the teams trading baskets. Winona State's
Megan Schuman closed out the scoring in the quarter with a layup assisted by
Hailey Markworth, bringing the score to WSU 12, BSU 10.
The second quarter remained close, much like the first, Tieryn Plasch started the scoring off for Bemidji State with a three-pointer assisted by Erin Barrette. Winona State would close out the scoring in the first half with a mid-range jump shot from Gamoke on an assist from
Mattie Schimenz. The score at the end of the half was WSU 39, BSU 26.
Winona State started the second half hot, coming out and making the first three baskets of the third quarter. The quarter ended on a layup from Bemidji State's Rachel Koenig, bringing the score to WSU 59, BSU 42.
Bemidji State scored the first points of the final quarter with a layup from Ashlynne Guenther, assisted by Plasch. Winona State would continue to increase the lead shooting 5-12 (41.7%), a layup from
Emma Kilpatrick assisted by
Lindsey Hahn closed out the scoring for WSU in the fourth. The score at the end of the contest was WSU 75, BSU 57.
Individual Leaders:
- Gamoke led the Warriors in minutes with 37 and points with 21 on 7-20 (35%) shooting from the field.
- Markworth led WSU in assists with seven and in rebounds with nine.
- Vivica Bretton and Markworth led Winona State in steals with one each.
- Barrette led BSU in scoring with 12 points on 4-8 (50%) shooting from the field.
- Aubrey Heyer led Bemidji State in rebounds with seven.
