WINONA, Minn. – Winona State men's and women's cross country are back in action on Friday, October 24th at the NSIC Championships hosted by Wayne State in Wayne, Neb.
Both teams will race at the WSC Cross Country Course on Friday afternoon with the women racing at 12:00pm and the men to follow at 1:15pm.
Women's Cross Country Notes:
- WSU is currently ranked No. 1 in the Central Region and No. 11 nationally in the USTFCCCA polls.
- The Warriors swept the podium to finish first at the Griffon Invitational and the Roy Griak Invitational their last times out.
- Sophia Taarud finished first with a time of 17:25.46. Kylie Anderson finished second in 17:45.75 while Ella Voit and Stella Rusch crossed the finish line in half a second of each other with times of 18:29.36 and 18:29.85, respectively. Kelsey Young rounded out the top five for Winona State with a time of 18:36.43.
- Taarud secured NSIC honors for the second time this season.
- Last year the team finished 3rd of 15 teams at the NSIC championships.
Men's Cross Country Notes:
- Winona State men's team finished second at the Griffon Invitational.
- Mitchell Johnstone and Robert Spain led the team with top 10 finishes.
- Johnstone led the Warriors with a time of 25:31.15 to finish fourth overall. Robbie Spain ran to a time of 26:18.54 and finished seventh to give WSU a strong presence in the leading pack.
- Jacob Lanzara was the next Warrior across the line, running the race in 26:36.90. Connor Norby, Connor Hallaway, and Wyatt Harmoning all finished in the top 20.
- The Warriors tied for 6th last year at the NSIC Championships.
