WINONA, Minn. – Winona State volleyball took care of business to finish the homecoming weekend with a 3-0 victory over the UMary Marauders.
The Warriors fed off the weekend momentum with a first set win of 25-23 and continued to be in control of the match winning the second set 25-21 and the third set 25-16.
How it Happened:
WSU played a very competitive first set with both teams struggling offensively. Winona State hit .161 from the floor and UMary hit .132. Even with the Marauders having three more kills than the Warriors, WSU would win the set 25-23.
Winona State would control the rest of the match in dominating fashion, out hitting UMary .211 to .031 in the second set and .324 to .091 in the third set leading the Warriors to a 3-0 win.
Statistical Comparison:
- Abby Ongna grabbed 10 kills along with 4 blocks, followed closely by Gianna Vollrath (7) and Ella Zmolek (7).
- Ashlyn Steding dished out 15 assists to lead all setters.
- The Warriors hit .233 on the match and held the Marauders to just .087 hitting.
- Each team had five aces from the service line.
Winona State travels to Jamestown and Northern State for a weekend slate on Oct. 31 and Nov. 1.
