WINONA, Minn, - The Winona State women's volleyball team held strong in a conference play match up, winning 3-0 against the Jamestown Jimmies.
Winona State started off hot, winning the first set and never looked back. The Warriors came into the last two sets with high intensity, taking the next two sets to secure the win.
How it Happened:
The Warriors created havoc for the Jimmies in the first set doubling them in hitting percentage. Although UJ had 12 kills compared to WSU's 11, the Warriors limited their errors to four compared to the Jimmies eight and would win the set 25-19.
There was no holding back for Winona State in the second set as they had a hitting percentage of .318 with an additional four blocks. Even with UJ having more kills once again, the Warriors showed determination through tough defense and minimal errors.
The Warriors would finish the match in dominating fashion with five services aces and a match high team hitting percentage at .367. WSU would win the match 3-0, beating the Jimmies in every statistical category except kills.
Statistical Comparison:
- Kenna Kornely led the attack tallying 10 kills with Abby Ongna (5) and Gianna Vollrath (6) also applying the pressure.
- Kornely picked nine digs, and Abigail Savatski secured four blocks to marshal the WSU defense.
- Ashlyn Steding and Jaci Winchell had 18 and 8 assists respectively.
- The Warriors led the floor in almost every team category, locking in a .283 hitting percentage, 12 blocks, and 10 service aces.
Winona State will finish this weekend's road trip tomorrow, Saturday November 1st at 2:00pm in Aberdeen, S.D. against #22 Northern State.
