WINONA, Minn. – Winona State volleyball suffered a 3-1 setback and dropped their second NSIC match of the season against #9 Wayne State.
How it Happened:
Wayne State forced six WSU hitting errors and capitalized on .517 hitting in the opening set to take a 1-0 match lead. In the second set, Winona State's struggles continued, hitting .194 in comparison to Wayne State's .357 giving the Wildcats a 2-0 match lead.
Winona State held the upper hand in the third set, taking a lead as large as 21-14 and holding onto that advantage after hitting a match high, .552, to make the match 1-2. The Warriors and Wildcats went back and forth in the fourth set, with each team taking leads up to four points late in the match. Down 20-24, WSU fought back to force extra play, where WSC ultimately won 30-28.
Statistical Comparison:
- Kenna Kornely grabbed 20 kills and 11 digs to pick up her sixth double-double of the season.
- Jaci Winchell dished out 22 assists and 11 digs.
- Anna Hennessy, Winchell and Kornely led the Warriors with 11 digs.
