WAYNE, Neb. –
Sam Perez found the back of the net in the 83rd minute to give Winona State a 2-1 victory over Wayne State on the road.
The Warriors struck first on a
Madison Barnick first half goal before Wayne State tied it up in the second half. With just 7:40 remaining in the game, Perez notched the game-winner to hand WSC their first NSIC loss and to move WSU to 2-2-2 in conference play.
How it Happened:
The Warriors pushed the issue early, outshooting the Wildcats 8-5 in the opening stanza. The pressure paid off as Barnick scored her second goal of the season to give WSU a 1-0 lead.
Abigail Rounds made a pair of saves to have a clean sheet in the first.
Winona State continued to attack, notching a total of 12 shots in the second half with five on goal. Wayne State scored the equalizer with 28:58 left in the match. Perez was able to get a shot passed WSC's goalkeeper to notch the game-winner for her first career goal. WSU was able to keep Wayne State off the board in the final eight minutes to hang on for the 2-1 win.
