WINONA, Minn. – The Winona State women's basketball team upset the #17 WBCA ranked Concordia-St. Paul Golden Bears in an overtime thriller 77-75.
The Winona State women's basketball team upset the #17 ranked Concordia-St. Paul Golden Bears in overtime after being down eight points at halftime and a half court shot by CSP to send the game into overtime.
How it Happened:
The Warriors started the game down early after a pair of field goals were made by Concordia-St. Paul to make it 7-0 with 6:05 remaining in the first. After a pull-up jump shot by
Hailey Markworth and a block on the other end of the court by
Lydia Lakanen the Warriors found a spark leading to a 13-18 score at the end of the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Winona State would claw its way back following a three pointer by
Breah Golden to cut the Golden Bears lead to three. The Warriors would stay neck and neck with CSP, holding them to only 16.7% from three in the quarter and would go into halftime with a score of 27-33.
To start the second half, the Warriors came out swinging. WSU would go on an 11-0 run to take their first lead of the night with a score of 42-40 at the 3:23 mark. Both teams would battle back and forth but
Megan Johnson and
Sadie Jarmolowicz would both hit massive three-point shots to put the Warriors up 48-42. WSU would enter the fourth quarter with a one-point lead.
In the final quarter, both WSU and CSP would go at create havoc for each other with a multiple lead changes. Both teams would foul in the bonus late which would account for two separate lead changes to make the score 62-61 in favor of Winona State. After a missed three-point attempt from the Golden Bears, WSU would have the ball back with 2.8 seconds on the clock. After Jarmolowicz hit both of her free throws, CSP would hit an electric half court shot to send the game to overtime (64-64).
In overtime, like the fourth quarter, was very back and forth. WSU and CSP would have a shootout with both teams shooting over 50% from three. With two seconds left, Markworth would hit a clutch turn around and one jump shot with two seconds giving the Warriors a 77-75 lead and the win.

- Winona State shot 35 of 75 from the field (40.0%) and Concordia-St. Paul shot 25 of 65 (38.5%).
