WSU WOMEN’S BASKETBALL TO START SEASON IN EXHIBITION AGAINST VITERBO ON THURSDAY

WINONA, Minn. – The Winona State women's basketball team will open their 2025-26 season with an exhibition game against the Viterbo University V-Hawks in McCown Gymnasium on Thursday, November 6th at 6:30pm.

The contest will be the first time the teams have met since November of 2022.

Winona State Notes:
  • Last season, WSU finished 11-17 overall and 7-15 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
  • The Warriors enter the 2025-26 season ranked 12th overall in the NSIC Preseason Coaches' Poll.
  • The Winona State offense averaged 62.8 per game while giving up 69.8 on average last season.
  • WSU opens the season at home in against Southeastern Oklahoma State on Friday, November 14th at 7:30pm.
  • Hailey Markworth was selected as WSU's player to watch. She averaged 28.5 mpg, 11.2 ppg, 4.7 rpg, and 2 apg in the 2024-25 season.
  • Vivica Bretton is leading Winona State in rebounds, averaging 5.6 per game and 156 total putting her the top 20 in the NSIC.
  • The Warriors return Sadie Jarmolowicz, Bria Stenstrom, Natalie Meaux, Megan Schuman, Vivica Bretton, and Lydia Lakanen who all saw minutes last season.
  • Alayna Suprenand, Breah Golden, and Rachel Koenig are all coming in as transfers from their respective programs.
  • The Warriors roster is rounded out by the freshman group of Rylie Cother, Eva Brooks, Myah Maull, and Megan Johnson.
  • WSU will be under the direction of fourth-year head coach, Ana Wurtz, who will bring lots of experience to the Warriors.
Viterbo Notes:
  • Last year, Viterbo finished the season with a record of 15-14 and 8-12 in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) play.
  • The V-Hawks averaged 71.8 points per game last season while allowing an average of 64.4 a game.
  • Carly Drew was Viterbo's number one scorer last season with 8.6 points per game and a 32.6% 3-point shooting percentage.
  • Viterbo will play their next match of the 2025-26 season against Northwestern on Tuesday, November 4th at 7:00pm.
