WINONA, Minn. – The Winona State women's volleyball team started their last weekend at home off strong with a 3-0 sweep over the MSUM Dragons.
Winona State started off hot, winning the first set and continued to dominate the match in the last two sets as well. With high intensity on both offense and defense, the Warriors would take the second and third set to secure the win.
How it Happened:
The Warriors played a competitive first set with both teams hitting over .200 from the court and committing minimal errors. Winona State would ultimately come out on top of the match with a score of 25-21.
WSU would control the rest of the match being up by as much as 20-5 in the second set (winning 25-13) and dominating offensively in the third set, out hitting the Dragons .457 to .196.
Statistical Comparison:
- Gianna Vollrath grabbed 11 kills along with 6 blocks, followed closely by Abby Ongna (11) and Kenna Kornely (10).
- Ashlyn Steding dished out 23 assists to lead all setters.
- Anna Hennessy led the floor in total digs with eight followed by Lily Shields (7).
- The Warriors hit .326 in the match and held the Dragons to just .126 hitting.
- Winona State had nine blocks compared to MSU Moorhead's zero.
- WSU outplayed MSUM in every statistical category including, kills (44), aces (4), assists (42) and digs (43).
Winona State will have their final 2025 season home match on Saturday, November 8th at 2:00pm against Minnesota Crookston in McCown Gymnasium.
