WINONA, Minn. – The Winona State women's basketball team fell to the #2 ranked Minnesota State at home 87-80.
Winona State played the #2 ranked Minnesota State Mavericks in a tight finish at home but would ultimately fall short in an 87-80 loss.
How it Happened:
In the first quarter, the Warriors held their own against the Mavericks, going on a 9-0 run by the 5:53 mark to take the lead 11-7. After solid back and forth efforts from both teams after seven lead changes, Winona State would go into the second quarter only down by a margin of three (26-23).
WSU would struggle offensively in the second quarter shooting only 16.7% (one-of-six_ from three and 42.9% from the field. MSU would go on a run of their own (9-0) at the halfway point into the quarter making the score 44-30 at the 3:47 mark. Going into halftime, Winona State would trail 49-37.
Coming out of halftime the Warriors would go down as much as 17 points after a pair of jumpers from the electric Minnesota State offense. Even though Winona State was able to shoot 50.0% from the field, MSU's elite defense caused eight turnovers while their offense shot 41.7% from the field. The score going into the fourth quarter was 71-58.
To finish the game, WSU would crawl their way back after three possessions in a row with a three-point bucket to make the score margin as low as four points (75-71) at the 6:22 mark. The Mavericks would ultimately have the final say as they would finish the game holding the lead for the entire second half and win with a score of 87-80.

- The Warriors shot a impressive 29-of-54 (53.7%) from the field while the Huskies went 37-of-73 (50.7%) in the loss.
- WSU commanded the glass out rebounding Michigan Tech 30-23.

- Breah Golden and Alayna Suprenand both added 10 points with four and five rebounds respectively.
- Natalie Bremmer led the Huskies with 22 points on 10-of-19 shooting, while going one-of-two from deep.
The Warriors will be tested next on Saturday, December 6th at St. Cloud State at 4:00pm.
