WSU FALLS ON THE ROAD AGAINST MSU

MANKATO, Minn. – The Winona State women's basketball team lost on the road against Minnesota State University, Mankato 105-49.
 
Hailey Markworth, Megan Schuman, and Olivia Gamoke led the Warriors in scoring each recording eight points.
 
How it Happened:
 
Minnesota State's Natalie Bremer scored the first points of the contest with a three-pointer assisted by Destinee Bursch. Winona State's Sadie Jarmolowicz scored the first points for the Warriors with a layup. MSU's Bursch closed out the scoring in the first quarter with a three-pointer assisted by Elisabeth Gadient, bringing the score to Minnesota State 23, Winona State 9.
 
Starting the second quarter, MSU scored first with a jump shot from Hannah Herzig. The Warriors made a push to close the scoring deficit, shooting 7-11 (63.6%) from the field, 3-5 (60%) from beyond the arc, and a perfect 2-2 from the free throw line. Minnesota State's Gadient closed out the scoring in the first half with a pair of free throws, bringing the score to Minnesota State 51, Winona State 28.
 
The Mavericks came out of the half hot, scoring the first 11 points of the third quarter. Winona State's defense slowed down Minnesota State by allowing no second-chance points in the quarter. MSU's Ava Stier closed out the scoring in the quarter with a three-pointer assisted by Herzig, bringing the score to Minnesota State 81, Winona State 35.
 
Winona State scored the first points in the final quarter of the contest with a three-pointer from Avery Moeller, assisted by Lindsey Hahn. The Warriors made a push into the scoring deficit late in the quarter with a jump shot from Emma Kilpatrick and a layup from Bria Stenstrom. The differential proved to be insurmountable, the score at the end of the contest was Minnesota State 105, Winona State 49.

  • Markworth, Schuman, and Gamoke led the Warriors in scoring each recording eight points.
