WARRIORS DEFEAT ST. CLOUD STATE UNIVERSITY 4-3

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The Winona State University women's tennis team kicked off their spring season in impressive fashion, securing a 4-3 road victory against the St. Cloud State Huskies at the Sta-Fit Tennis Center. The Warriors dominated doubles play, sweeping all three matches to clinch the crucial doubles point.

Winona State set the tone early, with dominant performances at the top two doubles positions. The duos secured victories by impressive scores of 6-1 and 6-2, quickly putting the Warriors in the driver's seat. Ally Burger and Elysia Beynon completed the doubles sweep with a solid 6-3 win at No. 3 doubles, giving Winona State a 1-0 lead heading into singles competition.

The Warriors continued their strong play in singles. Lainy Ristau battled through a hard-fought match against Johana Brower, ultimately prevailing 7-5, 6-3. Clara Thoemke also delivered a convincing performance at No. 3 singles, defeating her opponent 6-4, 6-2. Nikita Agrawal capped off the strong singles showing with a dominant 6-1, 6-1 victory.

The Huskies managed to pick up some wins in singles play to make the final score closer, but the early dominance in doubles and key singles victories from Ristau, Thoemke, and Agrawal proved to be the difference-makers for the Warriors.

Winona State is next in action on Saturday, February 22 when they face off against the University of Mary on the road in Bismarck, North Dakota.
