BISMARCK, N.D. - The Winona State University women's tennis team competed hard against the University of Mary, dropping the contest in close fashion 4-3.
Doubles Action:
The Marauders came out strong in doubles play, taking the No. 1 and No. 2 by scores of 6-3 in each. Competing at the No. 3 singles was
Clara Thoemke and
Ally Burger who would flip the script on the Marauders, taking that match 6-3, closing out doubles play.
Single Action:
The University of Mary continued their momentum into singles play, claiming victories at No. 1, No. 2, and No. 3. Winona State responded with a strong performance from
Clara Thoemke at No. 4 singles, who won 6-4, 6-2.
Ally Burger then delivered a hard-fought win at No. 5 singles, prevailing 7-6, 2-6, 10-4 in a thrilling tiebreaker. Freshman
Nikita Agrawal closed out singles action with another dramatic tiebreaker victory at No. 6, winning 6-2, 3-6, 10-8.
Winona State University tennis is next in action in Bismarck, N.D. when they face off against Minnesota State University Moorhead at 9am on Sunday, February 23 to finish off their NSIC weekend.
