Box Score 4 WINONA, Minn. – Winona State Athletics spring break: Saturday, March 15.
GOLF
The Winona State women's golf team finished fourth at the Vegas Warrior Invitational with a two-round score of 79-over par. Wayne State won the event shooting +44.
Ellie Behring led the Warriors, finishing eighth individually at 17-over.
Kelby Anderson was one stroke behind and earned a top-10 finish at +18.
Megan Young was the next Warrior at +21 followed by
Georgia Volley (+24) and
Maeve McDougal (+27).
The Winona State men's golf team earned the team championship, defeating the field by 20 strokes.
Peyton Coahran earned the individual championship, edging out teammate
Luke Maas by one stroke. Coahran finished the two-round event at three-under par while Maas finished two-under par.
Tyler Gandrud and
Logan Chouinard both also earned top-10 individual finishes.
BASEBALL
MISU (14) – WSU (9):
Winona State opened their four-game NSIC series against Minot State with a 14-9 loss. The Beavers scored the games first eight runs and got out to a 13-2 lead after 4.5 innings. Winona State had five straight hits to start the bottom of the fifth and ended up scoring five runs in the inning to get back into the game. Two more runs in the sixth brought WSU within four runs heading into the final frame. WSU's comeback fell short as they were unable to have a final-inning rally, and the Warriors dropped game one of the series.
Adam Wall picked up three hits and grabbed two RBIs and two runs scored while
Ben Hefel had a three-hit game as well to lead WSU at the plate.
Alex Berreth,
Jess Ondell, and
Josh Gullickson each had a pair of hits.
Wesley Johnson started for Winona State and took the loss, giving up six runs in 2.1 innings pitched.
