WINONA STATE FINISHES 2-1 IN THREE-GAME SERIES AGAINST SOUTHWEST MINNESOTA STATE

Box Score WINONA, Minn. – Winona State University finishes 2-1 in three-game weekend series against Southwest Minnesota State University after losing game three 10-8.
 
In the bottom of the ninth inning, the Warriors had a chance to take the lead with runners on second and third base but were unable to capitalize on the opportunity. The Mustangs struck out the last batter of the game, giving them the 10-8 victory.

Southwest Minnesota State started the game fast, recording the first run of the contest in the top of the first inning with a single from Evan Behn. Adding two more runs in their next at-bats, the Mustangs increased the lead to three runs with a single by Levi Lampert, allowing two runners to cross home plate. Winona State got on the board in the bottom of the second with a solo home run over the right field wall by Alex Berreth. Bringing the lead to within one run in the bottom of the fourth, the Warriors scored with a single by Joshua Hawksford. In the top of the fifth inning, SMSU increased its lead to six with singles from Jared Cortez and Caleb Gardow, a double from Brock Woitalla, and by Owen Latendresse being hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Clawing away at the run differential in the bottom of the fifth, Winona State scored three runs with a solo home run over the right field wall by Cole Fuecker, a single by Jack Funke, and a double by Kyle Yu. Adding two insurance runs to the lead in the top of the sixth, Southwest Minnesota State scored from Gardow reaching on a fielding error, allowing Carter Lang to cross home plate, and Henry Hammrich being walked with the bases loaded. Winona State got two runs back in the bottom of the seventh with a double to left field from Berreth, allowing Yu and Dylan Harer to score. In the bottom of the ninth, the Warriors brought the game to within two runs with a double from Berreth. WSU had a chance to take the lead with runners on second and third base, but were unable to capitalize on the opportunity. The Mustangs struck out the last batter of the game, giving them the 10-8 victory.
