WARRIOR FOOTBALL TO PLAY MINNESOTA DULUTH IN FIRST EVER NCAA GAME AT TCO STADIUM IN SEASON OPENER

WINONA, Minn. – The Winona State University football team will open the 2025 season against the University of Minnesota Duluth on Thursday, August 28th at 7:00pm in Eagan, Minn. 

The nonconference matchup will be the first ever collegiate football game at TCO Stadium at Viking Lakes in Eagan, Minn., attached to Twin Cities Orthopedics Performance Center, the Minnesota Vikings World Headquarters and Training Facility. 
 
WSU fell to UMD last season in a heartbreaking 42-38 defeat at home, where the Warriors lost on a game sealing touchdown by Minnesota Duluth with 0:23 left in the game.  

Game Tickets 
Click on the Ticket Link to purchase game tickets. Tickets are $20 and are all general admission. The gates to TCO Stadium will open at 6:00pm for the 7:00pm kickoff. Game tickets will be available for purchase at the venue.
  
Parking Pass 
Click on the Parking Link to purchase a parking pass. Parking passes are required to park on site. Parking passes are $10 and can be purchased on site. Tailgating is PROHIBITED at TCO Stadium and the Viking Lakes property. 
  
Pre-game Event 
Winona State will be hosting a FREE pre-game event for all Warrior fans in The Plaza at TCO Stadium from 4-7pm. There will be food and beverages available to purchase at the pre-game event. Outside food and beverages are prohibited. 
  
Winona State Notes: 

  • Last season, WSU finished 5-6 overall and 5-5 within the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. 
  • The Warriors enter the 2025 season voted to finish ninth in the NSIC Preseason Coaches' Poll. 
  • Brian Curtin is in his first season as head coach for the Warriors. Curtin brings a wealth of knowledge to the Warriors staff, as he is a former football student-athlete and graduate of Winona State. Curtin has been on the Warriors coaching staff since 1997. 
  • The Winona State offense averaged 27.3 points per game a season ago, while the defense allowed 26.8 points/game. 
  • WSU is 6-4 in the last 10 season openers. 
  • The 2024 campaign will feature five home games, five away games, and this neutral contest against UMD. Winona State finished 3-3 at home last season and 3-2 in 2022. 
  • Winona State is 10-36 all-time against Minnesota Duluth, with WSU being 0-9 since 2010. 
  • Jackson Flottmeyer returns at quarterback, after competing in eight games a season ago. Flottmeyer combined for six total touchdowns with 469 yards through the air and 241 yards on the ground. 
  • Conner Haggerty will be a key player on the defensive line, after leading the squad with 4.5 sacks, 7.0 TFL, and 52.0 tackles in 2024. 
  • WSU returns four of its top five receivers from a season ago. Cayden Holcomb, Joe Sikma, Jim Curtin, and Maurice Densmore all look to elevate the Warriors passing game this season. 
  • Winona State will also turn to Brent Jeske, David Nies, Lincoln Snitker, and Griffin Wiegel on the defensive side of the ball, after they all recorded at least 29 tackles during the 2024 campaign. 
  • The Warriors will look to build on a balanced attack after the team was fifth in the NSIC in offensive yards and fourth in defensive yards in 2024. The Warriors averaged 379.0 yards of offense per game and allow an average of 321.0 yards to opponents in 2024. 
  • Following this week's game, the Warriors will host Bemidji State University for a 1:00pm kickoff against the Beavers on Saturday, Sept. 6. 
Minnesota Duluth Notes:
  • UMD finished the 2024 season with a 7-4 record and went 6-4 in the NSIC.
  • The Bulldogs were selected to finish third in the NSIC for the upcoming season. 
  • Curt Wiese enters his 13th season as the head coach for the University of Minnesota Duluth. The Bulldogs averaged an NSIC best 34.3 points/game and allowed an average of 18.4 points/game in 2024, good for third best in the NSIC. 
  • UMD looks to repeat on a balanced offensive attack from last season, averaging 225.8 yards/game through the air and 213.2 yards per game on the ground. Both totals were top three in the NSIC last season. 
  • Minnesota Duluth had a stout run defense a season ago, allowing a league least 75.5 yards/game on the ground. In the air, the Bulldogs allowed 174.9 yards/game, good for fifth best in the NSIC. 
  • The Bulldogs will return home in Week Two. They are scheduled to face Minnesota State University, Mankato on September 13 at 4:00pm.
