WSU VOLLEYBALL GOES 3-1 AT THE HAMPTON INN INVITATIONAL

KENOSHA, Wis. – Winona State volleyball moved to 5-3 on the season after a 3-1 weekend at the Hampton Inn Invitational hosted by UW-Parkside.
 
Winona State opened the weekend with a 3-1 win over Roosevelt before losing to the host team, UW-Parkside. On day two, the Warriors picked up a pair of sweeps over Missouri S&T and McKendree.
 
Winona State (3) – Roosevelt (1)
The Warriors got off to a slow start, dropping the opening set 25-20, but bounced back to win the following three sets to secure the win. The Warriors hit .263 while Roosevelt hit .230 on the match. Kenna Kornely tallied 16 kills with Gianna Vollrath (13) and Abby Ongna (11) also reaching double figures.
 
UW-Parkside (3) – Winona State (1)
Winona State took advantage of a higher hitting percentage in the first set to win 25-22. The Rangers answered right back and won the following three sets, including a 28-26 win in set four to secure the win. Ongna Led the WSU attack with a career-high 21 kills. Vollrath picked up eight blocks and Ashlyn Steding dished out a team-high 24 assists.
 
Winona State (3) – Missouri S&T (0)
WSU dominated all three sets, holding Missouri S&T to less than .100 hitting in sets two and three. The Warriors outscored the Miners 62-32 across the three sets. Steding and Jaci Winchell had 18 and 17 set assists, respectively. Anna Hennessy grabbed 19 digs and Ellie Bruns collected 11 more to lead the WSU defense.
 
Winona State (3) – McKendree (0)
The Warriors rolled to another convincing sweep and forced 16 attack errors while just allowing 27 kills to McKendree. The Warriors hit .211 on the match while strong defensive play held the Bearcats to .108. Kornely capped off another great weekend with 14 kills to lead WSU. Steding tallied 19 assists and Hennessy picked up 16 digs in the match.
 
Winona State will now turn their attention to conference play as they host Northern State on Friday, September 19th at 6:00pm and Jamestown on Saturday, September 20th at 4:00pm.
