WINONA, Minn. – Winona State soccer suffered their first loss of the season after dropping a home contest 4-1 to Minot State.
The Warriors allowed three goals in the first 20 minutes of the game and were unable to find an answer offensively, moving to 2-1-3 on the season and 1-2-1 in the NSIC.
How it Happened:
Minot State found the back of the net at the 4:36 mark and followed it up just four minutes later with a throw-in header. The Beavers added their third goal of the half at the 19:01 mark to take a commanding 3-0 lead. Winona State applied pressure and out-shot the Beavers in the opening frame and had five corner kicks but were unable to find the back of the net.
Minot State continued to take advantage of scoring opportunities as they scored the fourth goal of the game in the 59th minute. Winona State put a tally on the scoreboard in the 79th minute after
Jacey Sturek connected with
Olivia Cyr for a header on a free kick. The Warriors applied pressure down the stretch, but the Beaver defense held strong and limited WSU's scoring opportunities.
