SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Winona State women's basketball team lost to Sioux Falls 66-53 to wrap up their weekend road trip.
The Winona State women's basketball team struggled early against the Sioux Falls Cougars, scoring only 18 points at halftime. The Warriors would lose their second straight game, 66-53.
How it Happened:
In the first half, Winona State kept it close to start with shooters
Sadie Jarmolowicz and
Hailey Markworth knocking down tough three-pointers and mid-range jumpers, respectively. The score going into the second quarter would be 13-9, Cougars. WSU started to fall apart offensively in the second quarter after USF scoring on their first three possessions and extending their lead to 10 after just a minute and a half of play. The score would be 21-11 in favor of the Cougars with 8:37 remaining. It seemed with every positive possession from Winona State, Sioux Falls would answer back. USF would dominate in the paint and with no scores occurring in the last two minutes of the first half, the score going into halftime would be 32-14, Sioux Falls.
To start the second half,
Natalie Meaux would spark some energy with a cold jumper in the paint at the 9:26 minute mark. Followed by back-to-back Markworth three-pointers after a couple defensive stop, it looked like a Warriors come back. The score was 32-26 with 7:03 remaining in the third quarter. But a common theme of this game was the response from Sioux Falls, and after a couple of strong performances from the Cougars the score going into the fourth quarter would be 48-37. The lead would get as high as 15 for USF and Winona State would never be able to recover from their first half struggles. The Sioux Falls Cougars would come away with a 66-53-point win over the Warriors.

- Winona State knocked down seven three pointers in the game, shooting just .219 from deep and .370 from the field.
- Sioux Falls shot a respectable .296 from three-point land on 8-of-27 shooting.
