Box Score MANKATO, Minn. – The Winona State women's basketball team was unable to beat the #1 ranked Minnesota State, Mankato Mavericks on the road.
The Winona State Warriors women's basketball team fell short in their game against MSU. Winona State went down 60-30 at halftime and was unable to recover losing 110-62 to finish the game.
How it Happened:
WSU fell behind early, after four different Maverick scorers hitting shots and the only counter from WSU being a
Megan Schuman layup the score after three minutes of play would be 9-4 in favor of MSU. Minnesota State found continued success from all ends of the floor, going into the second quarter with an outstanding 29-15-point lead. In the second quarter, it was no different. The Mavericks hit back-to-back three-point shots and the Warriors only points in the first five minutes were from a pair of
Hailey Markworth free throws. Winona State would find themselves in a 30-point hole losing 60-30 going into the second half.
To start the third quarter, Minnesota State would feed off of their first half successes by going on a 9-0 run. WSU was able to gather any sort of momentum despite some tough finishes from
Megan Johnson. The score going into the final quarter of play would be 79-44, Mavericks. Johnosn would have continued success for the Warriors, along with
Breah Golden gathering a three-point shot. Winona State would eventually take out their starters and rest up for an important Senior day match on Saturday. WSU would fall, 110-62.
