Box Score 2 WINONA, Minn. – The Winona State tennis team had a rocky start to their weekend of competition losing to Carleton College 7-0, before pulling away from UMD with an impressive 4-3 win.
The Warriors didn't pick up the doubles point against Carleton College going 0-3. WSU couldn't tack on any points during the singles segment of the match, losing 7-0 on the day.
The Warriors were able to bounce back on Sunday, February 22nd, and defeat the UMD Bulldogs 4-3.
The Warriors picked up the doubles point with key wins at the No. 1 and No 2. doubles.
Lainy Ristau and
Ally Burger grabbed the No. 1 doubles win 7-5.
Clara Thoemke and
Izabel Barr won at the No. 2 doubles 6-4.
The Warriors were able to pick up three more points in the singles segment of the match today. The wins came from the No. 1, No. 2, and No. 3 singles. Ristau won at the No. 1 singles 6-3 and 6-2. Thoemke won at the No. 2 singles 6-4 and 6-1. Barr delivered an impressive victory 6-4 and 6-1 at the No. 3 singles.
This was enough to push the Warriors over for a 4-3 victory.
The Warriors are 4-3 on the season, and 2-1 in conference play.
Winona State will be back in action Sunday, March 8th against East Stroudsburg to kick off their spring break trip in Orlando, Fla.
