KANSAS CITY, Kan. – The Warriors baseball team finished up its four-game series with Minot State with a split in Saturday's action.
Winona State fell 4-1 in game one on Saturday, then shut out the Beavers 8-0 in the series finale.
Game One: MISU (4) – WSU (1)
Both teams tallied a run in the first inning with
Adam Wall hitting an RBI single to score
Garrett Hietpas to make it 1-1. The Beavers struck next with a run in the fourth and fifth innings to take a 3-1 edge after five.
Winona State had two runners on with one out in the eighth inning, but MISU was able to escape the jam with no harm. Minot State added an insurance run in the top of the ninth and retired the Warriors in order in the bottom half to grab a 4-1 win over WSU.
Klayton Hawkins and Wall each recorded two hits with Wall having the team's only RBI.
Pierce Gritzmaker got the nod for the Warriors, going 2.0 innings while allowing four hits and one unearned run with three strikeouts.
Peyton Lee (0-1) suffered the loss throwing the next 2.0 innings allowing one earned run on three hits with three punchouts.
Boyd Skelley went 4.1 innings and
Max Strecker finished the game with 0.2 innings of work.
Game Two: WSU (8) – MISU (0)
It was all Warriors in game two with
Boone Kirst starting off the party after an RBI single scored Harer to make it 1-0 after one inning. WSU expanded their lead with a four-spot in the bottom of the second after
Josh Hatano scored on an error. This was followed by a
Connor Weed single that scored
Ethan Patterson and RBI hits by
Payton Kohnle and
Easton Arendt, making it 5-0 Warriors heading into the third inning.
Winona State added a run in the fourth on a
Hunter Guenther sacrifice fly that scored Kohnle. WSU rounded out the game's scoring after Hatano and Kirst crossed the plate on a
Cal Casper two-RBI single in the fifth.
Lockdown pitching by the Warriors staff held the Beavers to five hits and zero runs in the dominant 8-0 victory. Seven Warriors recorded a hit in game two with Harer and Casper tallying two hits apiece. Harer scored two runs while Casper knocked in a game-high two RBIs in the series finale.
Arendt pitched the game's first 3.0 innings allowing three hits and striking out three batters.
Eli Babler (1-0) got the win after 2.0 scoreless frames of one-hit baseball to go with his four punchouts.
Carson Jones tossed the final 2.0 innings to secure the Warriors' shutout.
Winona State heads to the Sunshine State for their Spring Break Trip. The Warriors will play six games starting on Friday, March 6, and concluding on Wednesday, March 11.
