WINONA, Minn. – The Winona State women's golf team will compete at the Upper Iowa Invitational on Friday and Saturday, then the men will be in action on Monday and Tuesday at the Firekeeper Open.
The Upper Iowa Invitational is hosted at Sunnyside Country Club in Waterloo, Iowa with 10 women's teams competing in the event. The Firekeeper Open will be in Mayetta, Kan. at the Firekeeper Golf Club with 17 teams competing.
Women's Golf Notes:
- The Warriors most recently competed earlier this week at the NSIC Preview, taking eighth place.
- Georgia Volley was the top Warrior finisher, golfing rounds of 81 and 75 to finish tied for 15th at 12-over par.
- Megan Young was just one stroke back, shooting an 81 (+9) on the first day then a 76 (+4) on the second.
- Young leads the squad with a 78.7 scoring average this year, with Volley, Kessa Mara, and Lindsey Lund right behind all below an 80 average.
- Winona State has four top five finishes so far this season.
Men's Golf Notes:
- WSU just took fourth place at the Tommy Riggs Individual as Peyton Coahran earned the individual championship.
- Coahran was named the NSIC Men's Golfer of the Week after picking up one of the biggest individual wins in WSU men's golf history after defeating a field of 98 golfers, including nine ranked individuals.
- Luke Maas finished tied for sixth overall last week and is currently second in the NSIC in scoring, right behind Coahran.
- Javier Ramos Casariego has been consistent for the Warriors, averaging 72.8 strokes per round to be fifth in the league.
- Winona State has seven top five finishes and four team victories this season.
