BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. – The WSU women's golf team was able to move up another spot and finish the NSIC Championship in fourth place.
After finishing the first round in sixth place, the Warriors were able to overcome their deficit and finish ahead of Sioux Falls, Minnesota-Crookston, and Augustana. Winona State finished the tournament with a team score of 951 (+87) and round of 320 (+32), 313 (+25), and 318 (+30), which put them directly ahead of Sioux Falls who had a team card of 953 (+89) and Minnesota Crookston at 958 (+93). The Wayne State Wildcats took first place after surpassing Minnesota State and finishing with a team score card of 926 (+62).
Georgia Volley was the top placing Warrior with rounds of 77 (+5), 77 (+5) and 75 (+3) which helped her secure a top three individual placement and a NSIC All-Tournament Team honors. Volley was also tied for second in the average score on par three holes with a 3.00 and finished the championship, sixth in total pars with 33.
Megan Young and
Kessa Mara were next up for WSU with Young carding rounds of 78 (+6), 81 (+9), and 77 (+5) giving her a 12th place finish individually. Mara carded rounds of 87 (+15), 81 (+9), and 83 (+11). Young was in the top 10 for total pars at the event with 31. Rounding out the Warrior's starting lineup was
Maeve McDougal and
Lindsey Lund who shot rounds of 83 (+11) and 87 (+15) to finish the tournament, respectively. Lund finished the event tied for fourth in total birdies with six.
The Warriors will now await the NCAA Division II Women's Golf Championships selection release, which is scheduled for Sunday, April 26th on NCAA.com.
