Warrior Gymnastics Set For NCGA National Championships

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The Winona State gymnastics team will make its first team appearance in the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) National Championships since 2009-10 Friday at the College at Brockport in Brockport, N.Y. The team and all-around competition is scheduled for 3 p.m. (CDT) Friday, while the individual event competition begins at 2 p.m. (CDT) Saturday inside Jim and John Vlogianitis Gymnasium.

The Warriors used a stellar showing at the WIAC Championship/NCGA West Regional on March 4 with a 188.525 – the third-best score in program history – to take the all-important third place spot and advance to nationals as a team for the first time in six seasons.

The Warriors will be joined at the National Championships by fellow WIAC schools UW-La Crosse and UW-Whitewater from the West Regional, along with The College at Brockport, SUNY Cortland (N.Y.) and Ursinus (Pa.) College are the competitors to advance out of the East Regional.

WSU will also be represented in each of the individual events on Saturday with four Warriors qualifying as individuals. Senior Brooke Hiestand will compete in the floor exercise, senior Jade Donaldson will compete on the vault, Katie Pipp will perform on the uneven bars and Eboni Jackson will compete on the balance beam. Individual qualifiers were selected based on the top-nine performers in the nation based on season-average scores throughout the season.

The College at Brockport will offer live video of the competition here, with results posted at the championship website here.
