Warriors Return Home To Face Concordia-St. Paul, Minnesota State

This Week's Women's Basketball Storylines:

[ WSU Game Notes | CU Game Notes | MSU Game Notes | Live Video | Live Audio | Live Stats ]

HOME SWEET HOME: Winona State will be home again, coming off a tough road loss to Sioux Falls, their first of the season. The Warriors will take on Concordia-St. Paul at 6 p.m. on Friday night and will tip-off against Minnesota State Saturday evening at 4 p.m. Both games will be in McCown Gymnasium, a place where the Warriors hold a 4-0 record this season.

DOUBLE-DOUBLE TROUBLE: The Warriors got their first double-double of the season when sophomore transfer Kayla Timmerman recorded a 22-point, 10-rebound performance against Sioux Falls. Timmerman recorded career-highs in points, rebounds, and blocked shots in 26 minutes of action. She was a bright spot for the Warriors in an 82-65 loss to Sioux Falls.

FOLEY TO THE HOLE: In the win over Southwest Minnesota State, junior transfer Alexis Foley put together a career game. Foley made 11 field goals against the Mustangs, eight of which were layups driving to the basket. Foley finished the game 11-of-15 from the field, 5-of-6 from the free-throw line and dished out a career-high five assists in the 78-55 win over Southwest Minnesota State.

SMSU STEALFEST: The Warriors recorded a season-high 11 steals against the Mustangs. Junior point guard Connor Nagle recorded a game-high five steals, Foley added three and Allison Hocking recorded a career-high two steals off the bench in the strong defensive effort over SMSU.

STREAKY SERIES: WSU will be looking for some better luck against the Golden Bears of Concordia-St. Paul. Winona State holds a 13-26 all-time record against Concordia, dating back to 1977. Lately, the series history between the two has been streaky. Between 2007 and 2011, Concordia won seven straight meetings, followed by the Warriors winning four straight between 2011 and 2013 and Concordia winning the last three meetings.

NAGLE vs. THE BEARS: Despite a 65-57 loss in the last meeting against Concordia last season, the Warriors will be hoping for a repeat performance out of Connor Nagle. Self-admittedly her favorite team to play, Nagle had a 17 point, nine rebound, four assist performance against the Golden Bears.

TAKING THE BULL BY THE HORNS: The Warriors task won't get any easier from the Minnesota State Mavericks Saturday night. Winona State has lost five straight to the Mavericks, with the last win coming in 2012 in a 67-55 win by Winona State. Prior to the losing streak, the Warriors had won five of six meetings against Minnesota State between 2009 and 2011.

THROWING THE MAVS OUT OF BALANCE: Winona State's big challenge Saturday night will be trying to neutralize MSU's balance on offense. The Mavericks have four players averaging double-figures in scoring. However, where WSU will need to expose Minnesota State is their difficulty in handling the basketball. The Mavericks are one of the most turnover-prone teams in the NSIC, averaging 17.3 turnovers a game. In the meantime, the Warriors are one of the best ball-handling teams in the conference, leading the league in only averaging 12.3 turnovers a game.
