Nonconference Play Ends, NSIC Slate Begins For No. 11 Warriors

WINONA, Minn. -- The No. 11 Winona State women's basketball team wraps up its nonconference schedule Tuesday night when it hosts Loras College at 7 p.m. in McCown Gym. The Warriors then open NSIC play Saturday with a 4 p.m. tipoff at Dorman Gym in Fayette, Iowa.

HOT START: The Warriors have lived up to their preseason praise, earning a 6-0 start this season. The Warriors swept three games at the Disney Tip-Off Classic in California before beating Saint Mary's 90-68, UW-Eau Claire and Viterbo in nonconference play in McCown Gym.

FANTASTIC FOURSOME: WSU's top four scorers have picked up where the left off from strong seasons a year ago. After each finishing in double figures in points per game last season, the tune is the same this year, as through six games Alexis Foley (14.2), Tara Roelofs (12.8), Kayla Timmerman (12.0) and Connor Nagle (11.0) are all above 10 points per game again.

3-POINT DUO: Senior Connor Nagle enjoyed another hot shooting night against Saint Mary's sinking seven 3-pointers, with six coming in the first half. The mark tied a career high for Nagle, who has 123 triples in her career, the eighth-most in WSU history. Through six games, Nagle already has hit 19 3-pointers and is sinking them at a 59.4 percent clip, good for the 21st-best mark in the nation. Teammate Alexis Foley is 18th in the nation in the same statistic, making an even 60 percent of her 3-pointers (12-of-20).

EASY CHARITY: WSU has been fantastic at the charity stripe this season, hitting 84-of-94 free throws (89.4 percent), which is the second best mark in Division II thus far.

TURNOVERS IN THEIR FAVOR: WSU is ranked sixth in Division II in assist-to-turnover ratio at 1.7. Not only have the Warriors taken good care of the basketball, they've been a hassle for their opponents, most recently overwhelming Viterbo last Saturday to the tune of 29 turnovers.

MOVIN' UP THE RANKINGS: After making its first-ever apperance in the WBCA Preseason Top 25 Coaches' Poll with a No. 16 ranking, WSU moved up five spots in the first regular season poll released 11/24, checking in at No. 11.

D2SIDA POLL: The Warriors moved up one spots in the D2SIDA (Division II Sports Information Directors of America) national poll, checking in at No. 14 this week. In the regional poll, the Warriors are ranked No. 3, behind only Emporia State and Fort Hays State.

DEFENDING McCOWN: With last week's wins over UW-Eau Claire and Viterbo, WSU brought its home nonconference winning streak to 12 games. The Warriors have the chance to extend it to 13 with its final nonconference game against Loras.
