LAST TIME OUT: The Warriors kept their perfect road winning streak in tact with a 60-59 win over Sioux Falls Friday night before posting a 57-42 victory over Southwest Minnesota State on Saturday.
Alexis Foley scored a season-high 25 points and hit the game-winning free throws against USF, while
Kayla Timmerman scored a season-high 22 points in the win over the Mustangs.
FAMILIAR MARAUDERS: Despite being in different divisions, the Warriors and U-Mary are no strangers, having played each other twice in each of the past two seasons including the NSIC Tournament both years. The two teams last met in last season's opening round of the NSIC/Sanford Health Tournament in McCown Gymnasium, a 67-62 WSU win.
Connor Nagle hit a game-winning 3-pointer with 1.6 seconds left, while
Hannah McGlone scored a career-high 19 points in the outing.
ABOUT THE MARAUDERS: The Marauders are coached by Rick Neumann, who holds a 54-50 record in his fourth season as head coach at U-Mary. Mary is led by senior Brittney Dietz's 22 points per game, which leads the NSIC and is 5th in Division II. Hannah Larson adds 10.6 points and 8.3 rebounds. The Marauders rank 8th in the NSIC in scoring offense (69.6 ppg) and 5th in scoring defense (61.6 ppg). They also rank 2nd in FG pct. defense (34.5 percent) and defensive rebounds (29.7 per game).
Â
ABOUT THE BEAVERS: MSU is coached by Sheila Green Gerding, who holds a 353-248 record in her 21st season at the helm of Minot State. MSU is led by Savana Kingsbury's 12.2 points and 7.8 rebounds per game, while Alex Haley adds 11.3 ppg and Sarah Lester adds 9.8 ppg. The Beavers rank 11th in the NSIC in scoring offense and are 12th in scoring defense. The Beavers also rank 3rd in steals (9.3 per game), but are 15th in 3-point field goal percentage offense (.261) and defense (.340) as well as rebounding margin (-3.8).
ATOP THE NATION: The Warriors currently rank in the top 5 in Division II in a pair of statistical categories. WSU is No. 1 in free throw percentage (81.5), and No. 5 in scoring defense (52.0 ppg).
TIMMERMAN'S BLOCK PARTY: Kayla Timmerman continues to be a defensive force in the post. In last Saturday's win over SMSU, she became the third Warrior in career history to reach 100 blocks. The junior's 42 blocks this season ranks fifth-most in Division II - and is just two behind third place. Her six swats against Northern State on Jan. 2 tied her career-high for the fifth time.
HANNAH McREBOUND: Sophomore
Hannah McGlone has become a major rebounding threat as of late. After not pulling down double-digit rebounds through the first 14 games of the season, she's now accomplished the feat three games in a row. Last Friday against Sioux Falls, she notched WSU's first double-double of the season with a 10-point, 12 rebound effort. She then had a career night on the glass Saturday against SMSU, grabbing an R/A Facility record 19 boards, putting her second in WSU single-game history.Â
LIMITING STAR PLAYERS: The Warriors have allowed just one opposing player to reach 20 points this season. Concordia-St. Paul's Anna Schmitt put together a 21-point game against the Warriors on Dec. 11 after WSU went the first 10 games without allowing one. The Warriors, meanwhile, have had a 20-point scorer in 10 different games this year.
RECORD WINNING STREAK: WSU put together a historical start to the season, as its 13-game winning streak was not only the best start to a season in history, it was the longest winning streak in program history. The previous longest winning streak was 11, set from January 23 to March 4, 2009, by the team that would later that season earn WSU's first berth in the NCAA Tournament.Â
NATIONAL RANKINGS: The Warriors remain at No. 12 in the latest USA Today Sports Division II Top 25 Coaches' Poll. WSU was ranked No. 16 in the preseason poll - its first ever top 25 ranking - and has been as high as No. 9 this year. WSU also remained at No. 13 in the D2SIDA media poll. WSU is also ranked No. 4 in the nation in the HERO Sports Top 25.Â
REGIONAL RANKINGS: WSU is ranked No. 3 in the D2SIDA Central Region Poll, while WSU was given the top spot in the HERO Sports Central Region rankings.
