Warrior women look to snap skid against North foes

WINONA, Minn. – Winona State University travels to Minot State and University of Mary this weekend looking to shake off a four-game losing streak.

The Warriors' four-game skid is their longest since the 2013-14 campaign when they endured an 11-game slump.

WSU has battled through some injuries over the second half of the season after getting off to a 11-1 start in the 2017 calendar year. Allie Pickrain missed three games after break, and the Warriors have been without Gabie Doud since December 16th. An illness kept Rachel Novotny from playing in last weekend's road sweep.

Winona's offensive slump appeared to have hit rock bottom in a 74-37 loss at Wayne State last weekend. The Warriors' shot a season-worst 25% from the field while going just 3-for-18 from downtown in their lowest scoring game of the year.

Over the four-game skid, Winona is shooting just 34% (83-241) with a 25% clip (22-87) from beyond the arc. The Warriors also averaged 13.5 turnovers per game in that stretch.

Despite those recent struggles, the Warriors are still shooting 44% on the season which ranks fourth in the NSIC. Winona's 34% effort from three-point range on the year ranks sixth overall.

Defensively, the Warriors rank second in the league in scoring defense by allowing just 57.6 points per game.

Senior Hannah McGlone continues to lead the league in rebounding (10.9) while ranking sixth in scoring (14.4). She ranks second in the NSIC by shooting 55%. Her 10 doubles-doubles rank 12th among all Division II players.

Pickrain is averaging 11.6 points per contest and netted a career-best 22 points last weekend at Augustana. Liz Evenocheck is averaging 9.7 points per game.

Scouting Minot State

The Beavers (9-9, 6-8 NSIC) have won three straight entering Friday's matchup with Winona. The Warriors lead the all-time series, 3-2, including wins in three straight meetings.

Minot ranks eighth in the NSIC in scoring (66.5 ppg) and 10th in scoring defense (65.8). The Beavers rebounding offense ranks third in the league which will challenge McGlone and the Warriors.

Holly Johnson ranks fifth in the NSIC in scoring (16.5 ppg) and Kristal Flowers is the Beavers' top rebounder (8.8).

Scouting U-Mary

The Marauders (9-11, 5-9 NSIC) host Upper Iowa Friday before welcoming the Warriros to Bismarck on Saturday. U-Mary has won three of its last four games entering the weekend.

Winona holds an edge in the all-time series, 11-8, and has won four of the last five meetings.

U-Mary ranks seventh in the league in both scoring offense (66.6 ppg) and scoring defense (63.5). The Marauders are one of the worst free throw shooting teams in the NSIC at a 69% clip. U-Mary's 308 team turnovers are the fourth-most in the conference.

The Marauders are averaging 4.5 blocked shots per contest, the third-most in the NSIC.

Despite ranking in the middle of the pack in scoring, a pair of players rank in the NSIC's top 10 offensively. Gabbie Bohl is averaging 17.5 points per game while Cassie Askvig is scoring 14.2 per contest. Askvig also ranks fifth in the league with 8.5 rebounds per game.

Bohl is shooting 50% from the field while Askvig is knocking down 45% of her shots, both ranking near the top of the conference.
