The Warriors enter Homecoming Weekend riding a six-goal offensive outburst last week against Northern State and MSU-Moorhead. WSU came away with the victory on Sunday afternoon against the Dragons netting four goals and collecting their second shutout of the year. Winona State holds an all-time winning record against its two opponents this weekend in Augustana (10-5) and Wayne State (25-0-1). Friday's opponent, Augustana, however has won each of the last five meetings against the Warriors dating back to 2014.
NOTES
BOHANSKI'S BREAKTHROUGH: Senior forward Abby Bohanski has been searching for her first goal of the season and finally found it this past weekend against MSU-Moorhead. Scoring in the 54thminute to put the Warriors up 2-0, Bohanski netted her 28thcareer goal, placing her just one goal outside the top-10 in the Warrior record book. The Plover, Wis. native has amassed eight-plus goals in each of her first three seasons as a Warrior and looks to use the momentum from this past weekend to propel her back to that standard.
FIRING SQUAD: There's no surprise to see that the Warriors are starting to see the fruits of their labor in the scoring column. Winona State ranks second in the NSIC in shots on goal per game (10.25). The Warriors also sit third in total shots on goal (82), just behind Friday's opponent Augustana (93). A big factor in WSU finding themselves near the top of the list is due to the production of Abby Bohanski (14), Georgette Topalis (8) and Courtney Wiencek (15). The trio has combined for 37 of the team's 82 shots on goal. Also contributing to the Warriors offensive pressure is Melissa Greco and Addie Royer who have seven shots on goal apiece.
BETWEEN THE PIPES: Senior Jourdan Valkner has been tested in her return to the net for the Warriors this season. The keeper earned her second shutout victory of the season this past weekend making seven saves against MSU-Moorhead. The senior has compiled a .750 save percentage so far this season limiting opponents to 1.5 goals per game.
SCOUTING AUGIE: The Vikings come to Winona Friday afternoon sporting a 7-2-1 (6-1 NSIC) record and in the second position in the NSIC. Augustana has played in a number of close matches as of late. Their last four contests have ended as 1-0 scores. Alexis Legg has asserted herself as a threat off the Viking bench with eight goals and an assist in her freshman campaign. Her eight goal total is second in the conference while her point total (17) ranks third. Augustana's goalkeeper Claudia Pueschner has recorded five shutout victories in her last six outings and boasts a .910 save percentage.
SCOUTING WAYNE STATE: The Wildcats currently sit in a similar position as the Warriors with a 2-6-1 (2-4-1 NSIC) record entering play this weekend. Before the Wildcats reach Winona on Sunday, Wayne State will make a trip to Upper Iowa. The Wildcats are riding a 2-0 victory over UMD this past weekend. Sophomore Rylie Wehner leads Wayne State with three of their 10 goals this season. Alyssa Bagley and Rachel Grisham have shared time in net for the Wildcats making 43 saves. Bagley who has a slight edge on time in net and has collected three shutouts.
