Challenging schedule continues as Winona State looks to snap skid

WINONA, Minn. – Winona State University returns to the friendly confines of McCown Gymnasium this weekend looking to shake off a season-long six-game losing streak. The Warriors will face a pair of tough tests in NSIC North's two top teams – (RV) Minnesota State Moorhead and Northern State.

Tipoff against Moorhead is set for 6 p.m. on Friday with the homestand finale slated for 4 p.m. on Saturday.

The Warriors' current skid began in rare fashion as they dropped back-to-back games in McCown Gymnasium. Those blemishes stand as WSU's only home losses to date. Winona then went on the road and dropped four straight while battling injuries and illness, along with a sputtering offense.

Both games can be seen live on HBC25.

Prior to, and during Friday's game, will be the first Winter Game Day Experience of the season. The free event begins at 5:30 p.m.

NOTES

ROAD TRIP CATCH UP: The Warrior women dropped four games, each by double digits, the past two weekends. Despite, their recent shooting woes, Winona State remains fourth in the league in field goal percentage (43%) and sixth in three-point field goal percentage (34%). Allie Pickrain led the Warriors on the road trip averaging 16.3 points per game. She scored in double-digits three times and had back to back 20-point games against No. 11 Augustana and Minot State.

HOME SWEET HOME: The Warriors look to regain their early season dominance on their home court where they began the year 7-0. Since the 2014-15 season, the Winona State is 43-6 in McCown Gymnasium.

SCOUTING THE DRAGONS: (RV) MSU-Moorhead is riding an 11-game winning streak into Friday night's matchup. Drew Sannes leads the Dragons into Winona as the reigning NSIC North Player of the Week averaging 19.5 points and 11 rebounds per game. The Dragons are fourth in the NSIC averaging 72 points per game.

SCOUTING THE WOLVES: Northern State comes into town on Saturday just behind MSU-Moorhead in the NSIC North standings at number two. The Wolves also swept Southwest and Sioux Falls a weekend ago and are currently on a three-game winning streak. NSU knows how to shoot the three ball as they are 125-of-324 (39%) from beyond the arc, occupying the top spot in the conference. Miranda Ristau is the top performer for the Wolves averaging 19 points and 7.6 rebounds per game.

MILESTONE WATCH: Senior Hannah McGlone is just 48 points away from 1,000 in her career. The four-year starter will join her assistant coach Ana Wurtz and 15 other Warriors who have achieved this career milestone. She currently sits second in the NSIC in field goal percentage (54), has consistently been in the top 10 in scoring all season (14 ppg), and still holds the top spot in rebounds per game (10.5). McGlone is also fast approaching the top spot on the all-time list in rebounds at Winona State. She currently sits at 859 career rebounds and is 69 boards away from Lisa Parsons mark of 928.

DOWNTOWN: Junior Liz Evenocheck has been one of the most reliable options for the Warriors from beyond the arc this season. In her career, Evenocheck has been that consistent outside threat shooting 40% for her career from three. This season, she is shooting 35% from beyond the arc which ranks second on the team to freshman, Allie Pickrain (44%).  Teams need to be careful leaving her open outside as she can strike fire at any moment and jumpstart the Warrior offense.
