BURNSVILLE, Minn. – For the first time in their respective careers, Winona State University's Megan Flom and Bre Maloney garnered All-NSIC honors, announced with the release of the 2019 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) All-Conference Volleyball Teams.
Flom, an Offensive Player of the Year candidate, was named to the All-NSIC First Team, while Maloney earned Second Team recognition. Both student-athletes were members of the 2018 NSIC Fall All-Academic Team and are up for the same honor this year.
It's been a career year for Flom, who enters the final week of the regular season with a .408 hitting percentage – a mark that ranks second in the NSIC and seventh among all Division II players. The junior's .452 clip during over 18 conference matches leads all NSIC players. Flom's 325 kills, 3.96 kills/set, 16 solo blocks, 47 block assists and 63 total blocks are all career highs.
Flom was named the NSIC Offensive Player of the Week twice this season and the NCAA Division II National Player of the Week on October 8th. On Thursday, Flom was also named a CoSIDA Volleyball First Team Academic All-District recipient.
Maloney has set the Warrior offense to a collective .264 attacking percentage which ranks third in the NSIC and 13th in the country. The junior setter ranks fourth in the league and 24th among all Division II players with 10.83 assists/set. Maloney has added 75 kills, 230 digs and 29 blocks this season. She has accumulated 964 assists, surpassing 2,000 for her career during the 2019 campaign.
Maloney was named the NSIC Setter of the Week once this year.
Ranked No. 10 in the NCAA DII Central Region and No. 16 in the AVCA Coaches' Poll, Winona State (20-6, 12-6 NSIC) concludes the regular season at home this weekend against St. Cloud State and Minnesota Duluth. Both teams are ranked ahead of WSU in the region and among the top 10 in the coaches' poll. The Warriors have reached the 20-win plateau for the fourth time in the last five seasons – a feat that has occurred only one other time in program history.
