Bemidji, Minn. - The Winona State University women's track and field team saw several first-place performances in their season-opening indoor meet Saturday, competing for the first time in almost ten months as the Warriors took on St. Cloud State and Bemidji State at the Craig Hougen Triangular.
Madison Rizner claimed first place in both the triple jump and high jump to help lead the Warrior way, hitting a 36-01.25 mark in the triple, edging out teammate
Ashlie Lockington who went 35-10. Rizners high jump mark was 5-04.25.
In the sprints,
Michaela Pryor won the 60 meter dash with a 7.83 time and also claimed the 200 meter run with a clocking of 25.83.
For the one mile run, Winona State earned the top three spots, with
Lindsay Cunningham,
Kaylee Beyer and
McKenna Taylor turning in terrific times with sub 5:20 marks, more than 20 seconds faster than the next competitor.
WSU also turned in the top three times in the 400 meter run, with
Kalley Harris,
Brooklyn Schyvinck and
Kendall Zeman coming in at 57.84, 58.16 and 101.30, respectively.
In the 60 meter hurdles,
Xana Leum claimed a second-place finish with a time of 9.33, while Alli Hendrickson was the top runner in the 3000 meter run, and the only athlete to come in under the 11-minute mark in that event at 10:51.49.
Lastly, the Winona State 4X400 relay team of
Kalley Harris,
Kendall Zeman,
Shereen Vallabouy,
Brooklyn Schyvinck won the event with a time of 4:00.42, while the second team of
Maddy Pietz,
Emma Breitsprecher,
Kaylee Beyer,
McKenna Taylor turned in a time of 4:19.97 to finish fourth.
In terms of team finishes, St. Cloud State earned 102 points, Winona State 96.50 and host Bemidji State had 75.50.
Next up for the Warriors will be a January 30 date at Minnesota State-Mankato.
