WINONA, Minn. – The #8 Winona State University volleyball team hits the road for the final weekend of regular season action. The Warriors take on MSU Moorhead at 6pm tonight and will play at Northern State at 3pm on Saturday, Nov. 13.
Winona State (24-3, 15-3 NSIC) is currently riding a seven-match win streak that has led them to be in second place within the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) standings and ranked fifth in the current NCAA Division II Central Region.
MSU Moorhead (5-21, 5-13 NSIC) is coming off a tough weekend on the road where they were swept by Minnesota State and Concordia-St. Paul. The Warriors defeated the Dragons on Sept. 18, 3-0.
Megan Flom picked up 17 kills,
Bre Maloney dished out 38 assists, and
Becca Pagel recorded 19 digs in the dominant win by WSU.
Northern State (17-9, 12-6 NSIC) is riding a five-match win streak and in the midst of trying to clinch an NSIC playoff berth. The Wolves handed the Warriors one of their three losses during the season on Sept. 17 when NSU swept WSU, 25-21, 25-21, 28-26.
The NSIC announced their postseason awards this week and four different Warriors were honored.
Megan Flom was named the NSIC Offensive Player of the Year,
Bre Maloney and
Becca Pagel were named to the NSIC All-Conference First Team, and
Madison Rizner earned NSIC Second Team All-Conference accolades.
As the NSIC wraps up their regular season, the Warriors can clinch a share of the NSIC Regular Season Championship with two wins of their own paired with two St. Cloud State losses. The Huskies are on the road at Wayne State and Augustana this weekend. WSU has already clinched a spot in the NSIC Playoffs, which are held Nov. 18-20 in Sioux Falls, S.D.
